Best Phimosis Treatment Bangalore, Karnataka | Urology Specialist BangalorePhimosis is a condition where the foreskin of the penis is so tight that it can not be fully retracted behind the head of the penis. The common causes of phimosis are:

  1. Congenital, i.e. by birth: Phimosis is normal in babies as the foreskin detaches naturally from the glans (head) between 2 and 6 years of age, though it might happen later. When this does not happen, this tightness may cause several complications in adults like inflammation, difficulty in urinating, difficulty in sexual intercourse, or scarring of the foreskin.
  2. Secondary: due to infection in the prepuce called Balanitis. Balantis could be due to infection passed on from the sexual partner or secondary to Diabetes. These days young males presenting with balantis are actually diagnosed with Diabetes. Phimosis can also occur after an injury where the scar tissue can make it difficult to stretch your foreskin.

Symptoms

There may not be any symptoms apart from unable to retract the prepuce

  • Painful urination
  • Urine retention
  • Painful erection or sexual intercourse
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
  • Minor bleeding and infection

Treatment

The non-surgical treatment approach is application of a steroid cream to the tip of the foreskin for a couple of weeks. The steroid cream makes it easier to stretch the skin and gradual stretching back of the foreskin can help overcome phimosis. However, if the condition still persists or if there is pain, infections and other complications, surgical circumcision is the best line of treatment. Kids up to age 2 years can wait for it to resolve on its own. After 2 years if not resolved or they develop infection then surgery is indicated. It can either be full circumcision which removes all of the foreskin or partial circumcision which removes only the tight part of the foreskin. Circumcision is a minor surgical procedure which has quick recovery with minimal complications. It is important to follow all post surgical instructions provided by your doctor to make your way to recovery hassle free.
